August 2013

My how the summer has flown by!!
Sunny days, some cool breezes, and butterflies have made this summer a pleasant season.

Many of you have traveled far and wide, camping, cruising, having beach parties, and enjoying family.

We now enter a season of transition as we prepare for back-to-school, stretching our minds with knowledge and our hearts by drawing closer to God through worship and a new program year.

 Youth Confirmation Classes

Youth Confirmation classes will begin Monday, September 30th from 7:00pm-8:00pm and will be held monthly until June 2014.  On Sunday, June 22, 2014 Bishop Eugene T. Sutton will be making a visitation to St. James' and will officiate the Rite of Confirmation for those youth who have completed the Confirmation class.  The curriculum will be My Faith, My Life: A Teen's Guide to the Episcopal Church, recommended by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland's Missioner for Christian Formation, Randi Hicks Rowe.  You can click the link above to read about the curriculum. Each youth will receive their own copy.  The class will follow the format of a book club.  Each month we will review and discuss one chapter.

The Book of Common Prayer states, "In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilies of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop" (BCP, p.412).  If your teenager (10th -12th grade) would like to participate in the Rite of Confirmation, please contact Dawn+ at dawncampbell@stjameslothian.com or (410)867-2838, before September 30th.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with fellowship and events.  Please contact the Rev. Dawn Campbell for more information on how you can participate with our children and youth, email dawncampbell@stjameslothian.com or call (410)867-2838.

Have a blessed week!
