| | | | | St. James' Parish Old Herring Creeke Children and Youth Announcements | | Youth Confirmation Classes - The next Confirmation class is Monday, April 13th from 6:30pm- 8:00pm. Regional Confirmation will take place on Sunday, May 31st at 4:00pm at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore. Confirmation classes will be held on the second Monday of each month, wrapping up just before the Rite of Confirmation. Stayed tuned for more information.
The curriculum will be My Faith, My Life: A Teen's Guide to the Episcopal Church, recommended by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland's Missioner for Christian Formation, Randi Hicks Rowe. You can click the link above to read about the curriculum. Each youth will receive their own copy. The class will follow the format of a book club. Each month we will review and discuss one chapter. The Book of Common Prayer states, "In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop" (BCP, p.412). |
Pizza & Bible Study for Youth (grades 6-12)- Starting in October we began a monthly Bible study for youth grade 6 through grade 12.
The Jr. and Sr. High School youth (grades 6-12) will be meeting on the fourth Monday of the month. The next session will be April 27th. We will meet in the YAC classroom on the upper level of the education building.
We will meet from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Our time together will begin with prayer, pizza and check-in time. We will then spend the next hour watching a short video on one of the Bible characters then, moving on to discussion time, encouraging "youth to see the similarities between themselves and their faith ancestors...Unlikely people called by God to do amazing things."
re:form Ancestors is a youth Bible study curriculum that helps older students get to know personalities from the Old and New Testaments.

Diocesan Youth Event: New Beginnings #2 -
April 24-26th A retreat weekend specifically designed for middle school aged youth (grade 6-8.) The staff is composed of high school age students who may have already been a part of Happening and a New Beginnings retreat weekend. Adults are also on staff to facilitate and help coordinate the staff and participants. There will be one or more clergy members in attendance for a closing Eucharist and spiritual direction. Most of the adult staff will consist of youth group leaders, some parents, and those interested in attending a fantastic weekend. There is a series of short talks given by youth and adults, skits, songs and small group discussions and activities. These presentations focus on parts of life that mean a great deal to youth such as discovering self, friends, family, school, prayer, their role in the Church and God. The retreat revolves around fun, sharing, and being caring of each other. Though it may be a short amount of time, that will leave a wonderful impact. The program begins on Friday evening at 7:00 P.M. when participants arrive, and continues until Sunday afternoon, around 4:00 P.M. For more information and to register click here. |
