Pizza & Bible Study for Youth (grades 6-12)- Starting in October we began a monthly Bible study for youth grade 6 through grade 12.
The Jr. and Sr. High School youth (grades 6-12) will be meeting on the fourth Monday of the month. The next session will be Jan. 26th. We will meet in the YAC classroom on the upper level of the education building.
We will meet from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Our time together will begin with prayer, pizza and check-in time. We will then spend the next hour watching a short video on one of the Bible characters then, moving on to discussion time, encouraging "youth to see the similarities between themselves and their faith ancestors...Unlikely people called by God to do amazing things."
re:form Ancestors is a youth Bible study curriculum that helps older students get to know personalities from the Old and New Testaments.

Diocesan Youth Leadership Program - The next Diocesan Youth Leadership Program meeting for Anne Arundel County is Sunday, January 25th from 1pm-5pm at St. Martins-in-the-Field in Severna Park. Youth in 9th -12th grade are eligible to join this program. For more information on this program sponsored by the Diocese of Maryland and the expectations of the program, click here.

Atrium & Youth Fellowship - On Sunday, February 1st starting at 11:30am, we will take a trip to Quiet Water Park for ice skating. We will meet in the St. James' parking lot. Parental supervision is required for children in Pre-K through 5th grade. For youth 6th - 12th grade we must have a completed Youth Fellowship Registration, click here. If the weather does not allow us to enjoy Quiet Water Park, we will go to the ice rink in Bowie. |
Souper Bowl Sunday - Sunday, February 1st is Super Bowl Sunday AND Souper Bowl Sunday. The St. James' Youth will be standing by the doors following each service to collect donations in large soup bowls. The money raised will be donated to the fund designated to help those in need in Southern Anne Arundel County. The youth will use these funds to do a Supermarket Sweep, purchasing groceries to stock the food pantry. |
Regional Youth Group on Sunday Feb. 1st- A regional youth group gathering will take place on Sunday, Feb. 1st from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at All Saints, Sunderland. The gathering includes a meal. All youth from churches in the southern region of the diocese are welcome. |
Youth Confirmation Classes - Confirmation classes will begin on Monday, Feb. 9th from 6:30pm- 8:00pm. Regional Confirmation will take place on Sunday, May 31st at 4:00pm at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore. Confirmation classes will be held on the second Monday of each month, wrapping up just before the Rite of Confirmation. Stayed tuned for more information.
The curriculum will be My Faith, My Life: A Teen's Guide to the Episcopal Church, recommended by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland's Missioner for Christian Formation, Randi Hicks Rowe. You can click the link above to read about the curriculum. Each youth will receive their own copy. The class will follow the format of a book club. Each month we will review and discuss one chapter. The Book of Common Prayer states, "In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop" (BCP, p.412). Pancake Supper - The annual Pancake Supper will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 17th from 6pm - 8pm. Youth are to arrive at 4:30pm for set-up. The theme is Winter Wonderland.
Because of Presidents' Day weekend, we will have our pre-dinner team meeting on Sunday, Feb. 8th during Sunday School to go over responsibilities and procedures. |
 Senior High Ski Trip (9th-12th grade) - When: February 20th -22nd
Where: Whitetail Resort, PA
Cost: $175 for the first twelve St. James' youth to sign up!! Read below for important information regarding signing up and bringing friends.
Deadline: February 1st
The annual Youth Ski Trip will take place at Whitetail Ski Resort in Pennsylvania, February 20th - 22nd. We will depart from St. James' Church at 5:00pm Friday, Feb. 20th and return in the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 22nd. The lodge has been booked. The food will be purchased. The lift tickets are waiting to be bought and clipped to ski jackets. All we need is to know what youth will be joining us this year for a weekend of snow, slopes, and fellowship. In addition to all that fun in the snow, we will be having Evening Prayer on Friday and Saturday night, and Holy Eucharist on Sunday morning. *The cost per youth is $175 (priority discount goes to St. James' youth) which will cover lift tickets and rentals for the weekend. We have accounted for twelve St. James' youth. Friends are welcome and may only receive the discounted price of $175 if current St. James' youth have opted out of participating in the trip (otherwise, the cost is $250 for any additional youth).
ALL Youth must also participate in the Pancake Supper on Tuesday, Feb. 17th.* Youth, if you are interested in taking part in the fun that will occur this weekend, please sign up by February 1st, so that we know how many St. James' youth are participating, allowing us to know if we can extend the discount to friends. Depending on the numbers of participants, one friend each may be allowed to join you, but first, we need to know how many of our youth will be participating.
