Family Day Picnic & Kayaking

On Sunday, September 21st after the 11:00am service, we will be heading over to West River Center to enjoy some grilling and kayaking/canoeing. Monday, September 22nd is National Family Day so what better way to celebrate than to spend the afternoon eating and being on the water.

Bring some food to share, and a kayak if you have one (or you can rent one from West River Center).  We have a pavilion reserved for us, so come and join the fun, bring the whole family.  There are other self-led activities besides kayaking.  All those under the age of 18 must have parental supervision. For more information on West River Camp, please click the link below.

Please sign up by Sunday, September 14th by emailing Dawn+ at dawncampbell@stjameslothian.com so that we can notify West River Camp of the number of people attending and how many kayak/canoes we will need.

Youth Confirmation Classes

Youth Confirmation classes will begin Monday, September 22nd from 7:00pm-8:00pm and will be held monthly until the date of confirmation (TBA).  The curriculum will be My Faith, My Life: A Teen's Guide to the Episcopal Church, recommended by the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland's Missioner for Christian Formation, Randi Hicks Rowe.  You can click the link above to read about the curriculum. Each youth will receive their own copy.  The class will follow the format of a book club.  Each month we will review and discuss one chapter.

The Book of Common Prayer states, "In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop" (BCP, p.412).  If your teenager (9th -12th grade) would like to participate in the Rite of Confirmation, please contact Dawn+ at dawncampbell@stjameslothian.com or (410)867-2838, before September 22nd.
Looking Ahead -

The National Acolyte Festival at the National Cathedral takes place on Saturday,
October 11th.

This event draws acolytes from across the country to enjoy worship and workshops designed to enhance the ministry of young people as acolytes.  This year will be the first time, in many years, that St. James' Parish will be taking acolytes to the festival.

Acolytes interested in attending this day long event that includes eating lunch on cathedral grounds, please notify Dawn+ by email at dawncampbell@stjameslothian.com.  Sign-up for the event is not yet available on the cathedral's website, but Dawn+ will register those interested as soon as possible.
